If the advance word on this documentary by Beth Aala and Mike Myers (yes, Austin Powers takes the helm) is on the up and up, the truth and the legend behind the story of Shep Gordon incredulously merges into one crazy trip.
Gordon started out as a drug dealer to the stars (Jimi Hendrix) before seeking legitimacy as a manager (with absolutely no experience in the field). He faked it until he made it big, shepherding the careers of such disparate talents as Alice Cooper, Anne Murray and Teddy Pendergrass, before helping to usher in the age of the television celebrity chefs (working first with Emeril Lagasse). See how it all came about and dare to dream that it’s all true. Now open at Mariemont Theatre. (R) Not screened in time for review
