Mark Levinson (the writer and director of Prisoner of Time from 1993) immerses himself in the realm of science, documenting the work of a uniquely diverse collection of physicists from around the world. Their project (based on what amounts to the summation of their very field) — an attempt to capture a contained big bang smashing of particles in a specially built laboratory — will either be the single greatest feat of science or a catastrophic failure.
There is a palpable and ironic sense of magic in the most human endeavor, which makes Particle Fever a must-see for anyone intrigued with the unfathomable secrets of life and the universe. Opens April 11 at Esquire Theatre. (NR) Not screened in time for review
