If one accepts graffiti’s grand gesture of the elaborate, multi-hued and spray-painted work as “masterpiece,” then tagging could be considered graffiti’s “Vitruvian Man.”

A “tag”— a comparatively monochrome, simple alias of an artist who gets up on the street illegally — is thus a kind of primordial blueprint for future public inscriptions.

In what will likely be an interesting curatorial premise, independent curator Michael Mattox has enlisted 25 of the city’s most active graffitists together for Hit Up (The Art of the Tag), an exhibition of hand-style-only works on canvas at A Seamless Transition clothing store on Main Street.

Opening reception: 7-10 p.m. Final Friday. On view through April 30. Free. 1420 Main St., Over-the-Rhine, facebook.com/aseamlesstransition.
