Onstage: The Firebird

By Kelsey Kennedy · January 14th, 2014 · CityBeat Recommends
What could be more entertaining than a symphonic Russian fairytale brought to life through shadows and giant puppetry?

Igor Stravinsky’s classic ballet The Firebird Suite was performed in 1919 and has since been adapted and performed in many different mediums — including Disney’s Fantasia 2000.

Madcap Puppets Hats Off! program provides a theatrical and visually stunning shadow puppet rendition of the ballet, which tells the story of Ivan, the bird of fire and Katchai, a sinister magician. Culturally rich and highly creative, this is a perfect show for adults and kids alike.

11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday; 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday. (Additional performances 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center.) $8; free for museum family memberships. Cincinnati Art Museum, 953 Eden Park Drive, Mount Adams, 513-721-ARTS, madcappuppets.com.
