The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center gives guests the opportunity to take a trip into the 19th century and delve into the history behind the major motion picture 12 Years a Slave, based on the true story of Solomon Northup.

Guests use a self-guided tour to learn about various aspects of Northup’s life, from his captivity in slavery to his ultimate escape to freedom.

The center will also show its original documentary, Journey to Freedom, which is based off of Solomon’s autobiography and similarly shares other slaves’ stories.

11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. $12 adults; $10 seniors; $8 for children ages 3-12. National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, 50 E. Freedom Way, Downtown, 513-333-7739, freedomcenter.org.
