Les Claypool is primarily known for fronting his band Primus, but he has also proven to be a diverse, intelligent and unique bass player who can throw down with a variety of other artists in a wide array of genres. He can rip on Funk Metal, Alt Rock, Progressive Slam, Quirk Rock and more, and do so with originality and his sense of humor intact. He has collaborated with artists ranging from Buckethead to Tom Waits to Cincinnati groove master Bootsy Collins, becoming a professor at Bootsy’s Funk University.

Claypool’s latest concoction is Duo de Twang, where he creates twisted and funky Roots music and traditional Country with guitarist Bryan Kehoe. Kehoe is an alumnus of outfits such as the Jerry Cantrell Band, Ministry and Claypool’s Frog Brigade. He also fronts the Western Gothic group Kehoe Nation.

The best way to get hip to the Duo de Twang is to look them up on YouTube, where you will see them riff on Claypool gems such as “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver,” “Rumble of the Diesel,” “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver” and “Buzzards of Green Hill,” as well as Johnny Horton’s classic “Battle of New Orleans.”

LES CLAYPOOL'S DUO DE TWANG plays Saturday, Oct.

19 at Madison Theater in Covington, Ky. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
