The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park takes flight this week — more or less.
The show is Trey Ellis and Ricardo Khan’s Fly, a story inspired by heroes from World War II — the first African-American military pilots, now known as the Tuskegee Airmen.
It’s a documentary, but the story of these men and the hurdles they overcame is told with a sky full of invention. Khan is directing with an inventive element, a “Tap Griot” who dances to distill the flyers’ emotions. Video, recreated flights and battles mean no dull moments.
Tuesday-Sunday through Oct. 5. $30-$75. Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, 962 Mount Adams Circle, Mount Adams, 513-421-3888, cincyplay.com.
