Writer-director David Twohy teams up once again with Vin Diesel for another installment in the continuing adventures of the perpetually hunted Riddick (Diesel), an against-all-odds survivor, who, this time, has been left to die on a sun-ravaged planet with a host of aliens that have evolved with only one goal: to kill.
On top of that, Riddick must also face off against a dangerous collection of mercenaries and a man from his past (Karl Urban) who will stop at nothing to claim Riddick’s soul. Following the bloated and overblown sci-fi epic that was The Chronicles of Riddick, this new outing feels like a welcome throwback to Pitch Black, the more intimate and suspenseful kickoff that introduced audiences to the gravelly-voiced, menacing charms of Diesel. Opens wide Sept. 6. (R) Not screened in time for review
