Director Fernando Trueba (Belle Epoque and Chico & Rita) teams up with co-writer Jean-Claude Carrière (The Unbearable Lightness of Being and 1990’s Cyrano de Bergerac) for the story of an elderly sculptor (Jean Rochefort) living in the relative safety of the south of France with his wife (Claudia Cardinale), content to pass through his latter years quietly until a young muse (Aida Folch) arrives and presents an opportunity to engage in one last artistic and passionate adventure.
Based on the assembled talent both in front and behind the camera, The Artist and the Model has the allure of the siren’s call for discriminating audiences. Opens Aug. 30 at Kenwood Theatre. (R) Not screened in time for review
