A few years ago comedian Pete Correale was trying to become a father. “We bailed on that,” he laughs. “We tried for 10 months and no kid came out of it, but some really good bits came out of it.”
For a long time, the Correales didn’t want kids. “Then one day my wife wakes up and wants one. I thought it sounded like a pretty good idea, but it’s good that it didn’t happen, in retrospect.” The couple, it turns out, were trying to fill a void in the wrong way.
“What we were doing is we were food shopping when we were hungry. We hit a boring spell and didn’t know what to do. My wife said, ‘Let’s have a baby.’ ”
Correale knew they’d made the right decision to not have one after seeing his brother-in-law. “He just had a boy that’s not even a year old, and my brother-in-law is aging like the president ages when he gets into the White House. Obama looked like he could have played for the Bulls when he took office. Now he looks like if he came back for an old-timers game, they wouldn’t put him out there for fear he’d have a heart attack.”
