Foals is yet another great musical gift from across the pond. The six-piece band’s music, though recently taking on a slightly darker tone, is raucous and rousing. Their concerts aren’t meant for the people that stand and stare, but for the sneaker-wearing, arm flailing, synth-loving people of the world; the people who value experiencing life over documenting it.
And seeing Foals live, dear friends, is indeed an experience.
Describing “their sound” often conjures a clusterfuck of genres.
Ask 10 fans and you’ll receive 10 different answers. Foals makes noises that defy pigeonholing so well that their AllMusic.com overview page gives a manic list of styles that include Indie Rock, Post-Punk Revival and Math Rock. All of which seem not entirely wrong, but not quite right, either. Math Rock might be the most accurate, but it still falls short. The drums are perky, the voice is weirdly slothful and the keys and guitar serve as well-placed filler more than anything else.
Foals performs 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bogart's. $20. bogarts.com.
