Need a little noir in your week? You’ll find a stylish dose onstage at the Cincinnati Playhouse.
Double Indemnity is the story of a disillusioned insurance agent who takes up with a sensuous, philandering woman. They concoct an elaborate plan to murder her husband and collect on an insurance windfall.
It seems like the perfect crime, but things don’t quite work out. Film director Billy Wilder turned James M. Cain’s 1943 novel into an award-winning movie that inspired an entire genre of dark, seductive mysteries in the 1940s and 1950s.
Director Michael Evan Haney says the story of Double Indemnity is “a concise and brilliant exploration of the power of sex and greed — always great subject matter for the theater. I hope Playhouse audiences find this play exciting, sexy, enlightening and even a bit troubling.”
