Art: Doug Korfhagen
The Northside International Airport’s “most unique
miniature art gallery” (actually a converted bathroom) also shares space
with a vintage clothing store, a bike shop, makeup studio and a
taqueria. While that may seem random (it is), the alliance also allows a
group of people who might not otherwise be able to afford a live
storefront — something that’s become almost redundant in the age of eBay
and Etsy.
For the NIA’s upcoming Second Saturday exhibition, multimedia
artist Doug Korfhagen will exhibit some very Northside-centric artwork,
featuring his portraits of local characters and his distinctive take on
area buildings. Korfhagen photographs, illustrates and often woodburns
his subjects — many are people he sees on the street while out
skateboarding — and his particular brand of visual language is both
readily identifiable as well as curiously idiosyncratic. Go see what it
all looks like installed around urinals. 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Northside
International Airport, 4029 Hamilton Ave., Northside.
