After a brief postponement from the fall — to edit a violent sequence in a movie theater — Gangster Squad, the 1940s and ’50s crime thriller from Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less) seeks a hostile takeover of the weekend box office.
Charting the rise of Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) during mob-related expansion into Los Angeles, the film focuses on the undercover efforts of an elite police strike force operating outside the boundaries and limitations of the law. Despite the presence of performers like Penn, Nick Nolte and Josh Brolin, all eyes will be on pairing of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone (red-hot co-stars from Crazy, Stupid, Love.). Now in theaters.
