Jason and the Punknecks, however, have been rowdier than hell for over seven years.
The Punknecks’ bio doesn’t mince words. Calling themselves “Punky Tonkers,” Jason Punkneck is from Nashville while Polly Punkneck is from Kansas.
The duo, along with their drummer Nick Punkneck, are apparently known for “a rowdy show of drinking, drugging, Jesus, smokin’ pot and living between heaven and hell.” The Punknecks are also known for uplifting songs such as “Drinkin’ All Night,” “I’m So High,” “Doin’ Time,” “Pucker Up,” and, of course, “Alone.”The band’s show in the Lounge at the Southgate House Revival is free, but if you are moved to mandolin-driven mosh-pit fun by the band, bring a little something for the tip jar so they don’t have to resort to bedding best described by original 1930s Punk stringbander Charlie Poole’s song, “Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor.”
JASON & THE PUNKNECKS perform Friday, Jan. 11 at Southgate House Revival in Newport. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
