Its lyrics are delivered with lots of humor but no irony.
Now, the all-vital question: Why were these guys on Warped anyhow? Well, for as much as they sharply contrast the teen-friendly tour's conventional aesthetics (horse-voiced front man Josh Peyton's typical dress involves a newsboy cap, suspenders, undershirt and thick beard), both the Damn Band's music and live shows sport enough vim to give strangers pause. They're also on Punk label Side One Dummy Records and frequently tour with stylistically dissimilar bands like Flogging Molly, Clutch and the Reverend Horton Heat. If you need a visual to convince you of their enthusiasm, imagine seeing a washboard being set on fire — a stunt the band actually pulled at a Columbus show in 2011.
THE REVEREND PEYTON'S BIG DAMN BAND performs Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Ballroom of the Taft Theatre downtown. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
