After responding to report that a thief had pilfered field trip funds from students at Sharpsburg Elementary, Norwood police officer Matthew Evans made a personal withdrawal at the ATM matching the lost funds so the class could still take its trip. CINCINNATI +2 

Animal wranglers on the set of The Hobbit claim that the film’s production company is responsible for the death of up to 27 animals, including horses, goats, chickens and sheep, which were kept inside a facility the wranglers describe as a “death trap.”  WORLD -2 

Residential recycling in Hamilton County was the highest amount in recorded history during 2011; residents recycled 45,498 tons.

Savita Halappanavar, an Indian woman living in Ireland, died during a miscarriage when an Irish hospital refused her the right to have an abortion. The fetus, which was just 17 weeks old, also died. Ireland’s constitution officially bans abortion, but a 1992 Supreme Court ruling legalized the procedure when the mother’s life is at risk. WORLD -1
