With holidays looming and the practical issues of money, time and family that inevitably come with it, a reminder of our eternal insignificance might do everyone some good — particularly on Thanksgiving Eve. Do yourselves and your grumpy uncle a favor and bring the family to Holy Cross Church at the Mount Adams Monastery for Doug and Mike Starn’s immersive installation, Gravity of Light.

Sponsored by the Cincinnati Art Museum, the “equal parts sculpture, scientific experiment and photography” exhibition places the metaphor of light as giver and destroyer of life within the context of religious illumination, inside a decaying monastery. Wednesday-Sunday. Through Dec. 30. Special evening hours 3-8 p.m. Nov. 21. Holy Cross Church, 1055 St. Paul Place, Mount Adams. cincinnatiartmuseum.org.
