The term “visionary” gets tossed around way too casually, much like “genius,” but Samsara, Ron Fricke’s documentary (based on the concept and treatment he developed with Mark Magidson) more than earns the tag for sheer scope and scale. Shot over the course of five years across more than 20 countries on five continents, Samsara captures compelling visual poetry and elevates it to philosophical treatise without a single spoken word.

Reminiscent of the documentary Examined Life, which sought to bring philosophy and modern thinkers into the contemporary life, Fricke’s film challenges audiences to see and appreciate the real cycle of life and what it means when we talk about the natural order in the modern world. PG-13. CityBeat grade: A. $10 advance; $12 at the door. 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Carnegie Arts Center, 1028 Scott Blvd., Covington. cincyworldcinema.org.
