If you were in a scavenger hunt and needed to find a “comedian on the rise,” you would do well to bring back Cy Amundson. The Minnesota native was named “Next Big Comic” in 2011 by CMT, is a regular on the Bob & Tom Radio Show and recently made an appearance on The Conan O’Brien Show. His love of comedy started when he was a kid watching TV with his father and older brother.

“We weren’t allowed to watch MTV at my house, so we would watch Cheers and David Letterman, when he was on NBC. I also became obsessed with The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Tyler Moore and, of course, Saturday Night Live.” Though he has pursued some acting roles, he doesn’t see stand-up as a steppingstone. “The coolest part about stand-up,” he says, “is that you can formulate this idea, and then you get this immediate response. You don’t have to wait four to six weeks to see if it’s funny or not.  When I discovered that, I was hooked.” $8-$14. Nov. 8-11. Go Bananas Comedy Club, 8410 Market Place Lane, Montgomery. 513-984-9288, gobananascomedy.com.
