Often seen in big hats and suspenders, the boys from Old Crow are just as “country” as their Bluegrass music would lend you to believe. However, if their looks and lyrics didn’t land them soundly in the Bluegrass genre, approval from Doc Watson sure helped. His invitation for them to play at his Annual Merle Fest was Old Crow’s big break.
The show was a success and they’ve been touring (with ever-increasing audiences showing up) ever since.
Old Crow Medicine Show has released seven albums and the last three, including 2008’s Tennessee Pusher, went to No. 1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Chart. With each release the band has continued to sell more records. Having toured with the likes of Mumford and Sons, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings and The Felice Brothers, the band continually pulls in newer and younger fans. With this tour and (hopefully) a new album in the works, expect Old Crow to continue to multiply their success.
OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW performs Friday, July 27 at Taft Theatre with Gabriel Kelly. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
