It’s not hard to believe that Hayes Carll is from Houston; it seems he embodies so many great things about the music of Texas. A country drawl mixed with Rock & Roll, Carll’s most recent album, KMAG YOYO, was the Americana Music Association’s No. 1 album in 2011. His strength really lies within his songwriting; his song “Another Like You” won the American Songwriter’s No. 1 last year.

Carll’s first album, Flowers & Liquor, was released in 2002, and soon afterward he signed with Lost Highway, home of Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams and Drive-By Truckers.

Somehow this man seems relevant for all kinds of music lovers. He’s played shows in various types of venues around the U.S. and festivals such as Bonnaroo, SXSW, NXNE, Nelsonville Music Festival and others.

Whether he’s touring with his band, the Gulf Coast Orchestra, or performing solo, Carll says it like it is, offering keen observations on people and society. As each of his three albums shows, his talent is undeniable.

HAYES CARLL & THE GULF COAST ORCHESTRA performs Wednesday, July 18 with Scott Miller at The Redmoor in Mount Lookout. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
