With all the focus on metropolitan Cincinnati’s current cultural development, it’s easy to forget that many artists (being the independent thinkers that they are) choose to live and work away from the hubbub of the urban jungle. Artist-supported spaces outside of the city proper, like The Loft Gallery, turn out quiet exhibitions of quality artistic works on a monthly basis as part of historic downtown Middletown’s First Friday Art Walks.

This month’s exhibition at the aptly named gallery that sits above a stained glass window studio involves a drawing demonstration in different mediums from the same still life. Among those included are Marlene Steele, Paul Loehle, Mark Hanavan and Richard Eyman, so one can expect a show of hyper-realistic portraiture, oil paintings and still life drawings. Not only are works on display for sale, the timing is perfect to start commissioning a holiday portrait for your loved ones. Friday, July 6. 5 p.m. The Loft Gallery. 1054 Central Ave., Middletown.
