Even when spoken slurred and quickly, “Fuck Knights” and “Dark Knight” sound only vaguely alike. But do you think we'd let a petty thing like that derail us from comparing this gang of Garage Punk hellraisers to Batman? Hell no!

Let's begin by assessing drinking habits. When ol' Bruce Wayne does alcohol, he likely sips the finest bourbon in Gotham. The Minneapolis-based Knights, on the other hand, seem more likely to be all about dive bars (the ideal venues for their sound) and finding the cheapest well hooch available.

In terms of heroes, Mr. Wayne looks up to dashing types like Zorro and The Gray Ghost, while Fuck Knights’ biohazardous, Psych-tinged squall suggests the four musicians are deeply loyal to MC5, The Stooges, The Sonics and various cranky Garage Rock bands from the ’60s onward.

The Batmobile, the Batcave and Wayne Manor are all opulent objects that represent great investments of time, money and thought. But when discussing his kit, drummer/founder GD Mills (a former prolific Cincinnati musician) told City Pages, “It's primal. It's easy to move. It's easy to set up. And it's immediacy. (The) immediacy of being able to throw out shit in a rental car.”

Lastly, while Batman bows to the iron fist of justice and searches for order in a mad world, Mills' interview with Obsolete Skateboards established Fuck Knights' fundamental M.O. The question: “Is there an ‘ultimate message’ your band tries to convey?” His answer: “Meaninglessness.”

Guess they're probably more Joker's thing anyway.

FUCK KNIGHTS perform Friday, July 6 at MOTR Pub in Over-the-Rhine with guests Muddy Udders, Children of the Emerald Fire and Martin Luther and the Kings. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
