Shane Mauss always wanted to be a stand-up comedian but was hampered by two things. “I had no idea how to become a stand-up comedian,” he says. After moving from La Crosse, Wis., to Boston, Mauss made his way to New York City where, serendipitously, he found himself in a comedy club. There, the notion of being a full-time comedian started to come together. Years later, Mauss is a popular headliner who recently made his fourth appearance on the Conan O’Brien Show and can be heard frequently on the Bob and Tom Radio Show. His style is decidedly dry, with plenty of misdirects and witty reveals. He announces to the crowd that he’s been sober for four years, that his second wedding anniversary was just celebrated and that he’s expecting a child, all of which garner applause, though by the third one the audience is suspicious. “Yeah, that’s all bullshit,” he confesses. “Give yourselves a round of applause for not falling for that.” Go Bananas, Montgomery. Thursday May 24 through Sunday May 27. 8 p.m. with additional 10:30 p.m. showings Friday and Saturday. $8-$12. 513-984-9288, gobananascomedy.com.
