The two biggest things in comic Mike Cody’s life are probably wrestling and comedy. Cody, the winner of last year’s Funniest Person in Cincinnati contest, is on the bill for the Cincinnati stop of the Hardcore Comedy Tour. The show stars former WWE Champion and New York Times bestselling author Mick Foley. Also on the bill is The Reverend Bob Levy, a mainstay of the Howard Stern Show, and the headliner of the Killers of Comedy Tour. Popular stand-up comic Brad Thacker will also perform. Cody couldn’t be more thrilled. “It feels amazing to be a part of this show,” he says. “How often do you have the chance to work with one of your heroes at one of your favorite venues? The only hard part will be knowing that I can't spend the whole night asking Mick dumb questions about his tag team with Mikey Whipwreck.” While it’s a slightly different than playing a comedy club, Cody is just concentrating on bringing the funny.
“As far as preparation goes,” he explains, “the only thing that a comedian has to worry about is being funny.” He’s done sets at drag shows, comic book shops, and video arcades — even a Christmas party in someone's living room. “So doing a wrestling-themed comedy show won't be weird at all,” he insists. “The bottom line is that I'm just excited to perform with someone whose work I've enjoyed for a long time. Just as I'm sure Mick's excited to be working with a chubby man-child who still buys action figures on a regular basis.” Leapin’ Lizard Gallery. 726 Main St., Covington.
