How many bedroom-projects-gone-bands can Indie Rock possibly handle? If you're not familiar with this phenomenon's popularity over the last three years, let's use its basic narrative to explain why this question is important: A guy makes music in his bedroom by himself; blogs and indie publications take note and praise said project; guy gets signed by a solid label and/or starts touring nationally with a full band and —voila! — now he's legitimized.

This success story has unfolded for Baths, Toro Y Moi, Neon Indian, Craft Spells, Youth Lagoon and dozens of other notables. Oberhofer falls into this category, too, as the four-piece is led by Brooklyn-via-Tacoma resident and former loner Brad Oberhofer.

After issuing some demos and 7-inches, his group finally saw their first full-length Time Capsules II come out in March via Glassnote. The record was produced by Steve Lillywhite, who has also overseen work by U2, The Rolling Stones, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Counting Crows — an impressive footnote considering the band's DIY beginnings. With the inspired earworm “Away Frm U,” Oberhofer might have a “Pumped Up Kicks”-esque hit on their hands.

For this band who self-identifies as “Coincidence Pop” (the frontman once explained his music as “really just a combination of fuck-ups that coincidentally sounds pleasant”), things are coming together.

OBERHOFER performs Saturday, April 28 with Young Man at MOTR Pub. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
