Remember when every single song played on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy suddenly became a hit? That’s how nearly everyone (stateside, at least) became infatuated with Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars.”

The Irish/Scottish band might have formed 12 years earlier, but it took “Chasing Cars” to earn them some well-deserved hype in the U.S. Pop/Rock scene. Since finding their niche, they’ve received numerous accolades, including a slew of Meteor Music Awards. In 2004, they were nominated for Britain’s esteemed Mercury Prize. While the fame from their television slot has died down since its peak in 2006, Snow Patrols continues to build on its loyal fanbase.

The band has also continued to make and release solid music.  Snow Patrol’s latest album, Fallen Empires, released in late 2011, landed at No.

2 on the Alternative Album and Rock Album charts and made it to No. 5 on Billboard’s Top 200.

Empires showcases a new side to Snow Patrol. The band experimented with improvisational writing in the recording studio and also worked in some collaborations with Michael Stipe, Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age) and Folk Rock singer/songwriter Lissie. The new album pushes the band’s sound in a much more danceable direction.

Snow Patrol is on tour in support of Empires, but expect to channel the ’06 version of yourself when they bust out “Chasing Cars.”

SNOW PATROL performs Wednesday, April 4 with guest Ed Sheeran at Bogart's. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
