Honestly, if you saw the name Borgore typeset in one of those dripping entrails fonts, wouldn’t you expect a downtuned Death Metal corpsefest? Don’t let the name fool you; Borgore is one of the Dubstep scene’s leading lights, although to hear 24-year-old Israeli producer/songwriter/DJ Asaf Borger tell the tale, he singlehandedly destroyed the genre (he shills T-shirts bearing that very message).

The fact is that evolution and revolution are painful and Borgore (who used to drum with the Israeli Death Metal band Shabira, so the doomy fonts reference isn’t totally out of context) is fomenting both with his edge-flirting brand of Electronic/Hip Hop/Dance beats, particularly on his latest EP, Flex.

The four track release features several remixes of “Kiss My Lips,” a rafter-rattling collaboration with Dance diva Dev (who’s helped push songs by David Guetta and Far East Movement to the top of the Dance charts) and the title track, the video for which is a salaciously hilarious send-up of the Rap video template set to Borgore’s amped up Hip Hop-meets-Kraftwerk Synth Pop.

In addition to his own recordings (he’s released close to a dozen since starting out three years ago), Borgore also has a duo with DJ Tomba called Alphamale Primates and has done tons of incredible remixes for the likes of Passion Pit, Britney Spears, Gorillaz, M.I.A., Bring Me the Horizon and LMFAO.

There’s no dance floor at a Borgore gig; there’s the front door and the pit. Get in it.

BORGORE performs Wednesday, March 21 at Bogart's. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
