When Irvine, Calif., Indie Rock band Young the Giant performed “My Body” at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, they brought 300 of their closest hometown friends with them. The performance crash-landed the band in front of millions of fans and, as a result, Billboard reported a 220 percent sales boost in the week that followed.
Six months later, the band is still riding high on a wave of success, selling out nearly all of the dates on its current tour (including Friday’s stop in Covington).
When it comes to Alt/Indie Rock, new bands appear on the radar almost daily. What has kept Young the Giant on the tips of everyone’s tongues is its ability to be more. The band channels its California home with a sound that is summery and playful, while its anthemic guitar sounds and danceable beats have a strange tendency to make you long for the beach. In a word: fun.
YOUNG THE GIANT plays Friday, Feb. 24 at Madison Theater in Covington with guests Walk the Moon. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
