Bar Events

Arnie’s on the Levee presents their party with music by DJ Mike B and DJ Fatboy. VIP admission includes an open vodka bar, party favors and an upscale buffet. MOTR Pub celebrates the turning pages of the calendar with the musical stylings of You, You’re Awesome. The bartender was cool enough to answer the phone and my questions about NYE in song. Get your rear in gear and head to Northside Tavern’s NYE event. You’ll jig like a flea doused in a neurotoxin at 2011’s ultimate installment of DANCE_MF. Indie, Dance and New Wave. We swear, it’ll make your brain snap a synapse or maybe grow some new ones. Free, like the wind. 10 p.m. 4163 Hamilton Ave., Northside, 513-542-3603.

The newly opened Penguin Dueling Piano Bar hosts a festive party with a champagne toast and their famous dueling pianos to ring in 2012 in a way Jerry Lee Lewis would appreciate. The Righteous Room’s “Stress Free New Year’s Eve” offers no hassles and admission with no cover. DJ Matt Joy spins in the back courtyard. Tables available. 10 p.m. 641 Walnut St., Downtown, 513-381-4408.

Schwartz Point is one cool place to listen to authentic Jazz. Not smooth, but sultry. Their NYE show features the Ed Moss Trio. Champagne and an excellent buffet included. Really, this is the one for classy, hip adults. $15. 9 p.m. 1901 Vine St., Over-the-Rhine, 513-651-2236.

This may be the last NYE you’ll ever spend at The Southgate House. This is, by all reckonings we’ve seen, the stately venue’s final night. Music by The Dopamines, Dear Landlord, Banderas, Vacation, The Frankl Project, Mixtapes, White Walls, New Creases, Be My Doppelganger, SHIVS, Army Coach, Loudmouth, Billy Wallace and the Virgin Blues and Wm. “Billy” Catfish Orchestra. $10 advanced, $15 at the door. The  website says it’s sold out, so Plan A is try at the door anyway, Plan B is a scalper and Plan C is something insidious. It’s the end of this world as we know it, so do what you can. 9 p.m. 24 E. Dinner Packages

Oh, that this could go unsaid: Make reservations. Don’t show up at a place that serves real food and expect to be able to sit down to a meal. It’ll make you look like a real ass in front of your paramour. Also, if you have kids, why not celebrate NYE and watch kids, alternately, in shifts. A lot of these restaurants have multiple seatings. You can use this to your advantage. Bon appetit!

Arnold’s offers up a five-course dinner, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight. Music by Todd Hepburn 6-8 p.m. and Young Heirlooms at 9 p.m. No cover, but reservations are necessary. I mean, seriously, did you think you could walk right in? It’s Arnold’s for cryin’ out loud. 210 E. Eighth St., Downtown, 513-421-6234.

Everybody’s a smart ass on NYE, why not spend it with some guys who are actually good at it and sober? The Funny Bone Comedy Club and Restaurant rings it in with Steve Wilson, Mike Baldwin and host Mike Paramore. Buffet dinner included. First dinner seating 5:30-6:30 p.m. and is $45; first show begins at 7 p.m. Show only is $20. Gangsters Dueling Piano Bar tickles the ivories this New Year’s Eve with three acts for the price of one: The Gangsters dueling pianos, The Rusty Giswolds and DJ Mark McFadden. All aboard the Cincinnati Dinner Train for a trip to 2012. It’s an old-school rail ride from Madisonville to the Riverfront and back again with a four-course meal. The ride lasts about three hours. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s “Swingin’ New Year’s Eve 2011” features classic American song and dance followed by a formal ball. Included is live dance music by Hank Mautner, dinner, wine and champagne. Costumes and black ties are optional. Reservations required. $175. Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden gives kids a chance to celebrate the transition to 2012 with “Happy Zoo Year.” Included is the pageantry of the Festival of Lights, black light puppet shows by Madcap Puppets (6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.) and visits by the Baby Zoo Year and Father Time. Know Theatre of Cincinnati and CityBeat present the “NYE Speakeasy Party.” Just like during Prohibition, you’ll find flappers, casino games, dancing, martinis and dining under one roof.
