Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “independent” as “not affiliated with a larger controlling unit.” It says “I did it myself, man (with a little help from my friends).” The beauty of indie culture, though, comes from the bit between the parentheses. One might start with intentions of going solo but communal support makes the solo gig thrive.
Second Sunday on Main decided to dedicate an entire street festival to elements that surround indie culture. Indie music will flow from live local musicians. Local vendors will have an opportunity to share their independent works with others. A beer garden will serve local drafts. Local celebrity chef Jose Salazar will even teach attendees how to cook hip food. There will also be children's activities. The event will run from noon-5 p.m on Main Street between 13th and Liberty streets. The chef demo will start at 2:30 p.m. at Falling Wall Condos, 1417 Main St.
