Do you have a soft spot for seafood but find yourself unwilling or unable to travel hundreds of miles to the nearest ocean? Are you tired of paying inland prices for delicious fish, crabs and shrimp? Have no fear, landlubbers! This Thursday through Sunday, the Newport riverside will be transformed into an oceanside Mecca as it hosts the 2011 Great Inland Seafood Festival. More than 15 local restaurants will provide the freshest and tastiest fare, and attendees will find themselves up to their gills in Maine lobsters, salmon, crab legs, oysters, redfish, shrimp, crawfish and much more.
Free entertainment will be provided throughout the day and will feature over 10 local bands, including favorites such as Bad Boy Troy and Leroy Ellington & the E-Funk Band. The festival will once again offer its $10.95 Whole Maine Live Lobster Special, so be sure to stop by and reel one in before they’re gone — all 10,000 are usually claimed by Sunday afternoon. The tides come in from 5-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon-11 p.m. Saturday and noon-9 p.m. Sunday, and admission is free.
