The concept of "art as activism" is not a new one, but because the effects of art on society can be difficult to quantify, the conversation can sometimes be slippery and elusive. Enter Saad Ghosn, a local artist and activist who exhibits, curates and writes about art in ways that clearly examines the themes of peace and social justice. Artists as Activists is an exhibition of over 40 artists also working in that vein, and it opens this Friday at the Artisans Enterprise Center in Covington in conjunction with the two-year anniversary of Ghosn’s column in Streetvibes of the same name.
Artists on view have been featured in his column and include Keith Banner, Jeff Casto, Jan Brown Checco, Cedric Cox, Gary Gaffney, Jimi Jones, Kevin T. Kelly, Bill Ross and many others. Enlarged prints of Ghosn’s articles will be on display as well. The opening receptions is 6-10 p.m. Friday. The exhibition remains on view through Sept. 23.
