Summertime is full of outdoor activities to enjoy (at least when the heat index isn’t in overdrive), but if you’re after something different to do, why not check out some cool dance this weekend … under the stars? Dance Under the Stars boasts the talents of several area companies coming together for a pair of evening outdoor dance concerts Friday and Saturday in Oakley Park. Presented by de la Dance Company, these performances offer a casual, relaxing way to soak up some culture. Directors Meridith Benson and Mario de la Nuez of de la Dance Company reportedly cast a broad net to invite members of the Cincinnati dance community to present work.
As a result, the show features dancers of all ages and levels of experience, from children and dancers-in-training to professional adults. “It’s about community, really,” says Jeanne Mam-Luft, director of MamLuft&Co. Dance, a participating company. “Outdoor free dance is a rarity here, so it’s a rare opportunity to see it. It’s an entertaining free evening.” She credits de la Nuez with “doing all the work” for the production, including constructing an open-air platform stage. Bring your own blanket, food, beverages and friends or family. The diverse cast includes de la Dance Company, Demetrius Klein Dance Company, Tevlin Ballet, arts innovation movement (AIM), ballet tech of ohio and MamLuft&Co. Dance.
