Steve White will likely talk about anything when he’s doing stand-up. “Anything,” he insists. “Current events, not a lot of politics, but I dabble in it. Male, female, race relationships, hypocrisy, marriage and children. The more I live the more I have to talk about.” An accomplished thespian, White won the best actor award at the 2003 American Black Film Festival in Miami for his role in Skin Deep. He enjoys both of his occupations. “I love stand-up,” he says.

“Whenever I’m on a movie set or doing acting work, I love acting work. It’s a toss-up. It’s whatever I’m doing at that particular moment (that) I love the best.” The two, of course, complement each other. “Sometimes,” he explains, “I rush when I’m doing stand-up, so I slow down (and) I apply some acting techniques to it. Communicate the message, tell the story, get the point across. That helps in stand-up.” White looks forward to his trip to Greater Cincinnati. “You’ve got a nice aquarium,” he says. “You see I’m not one of these guys that blows in rapes a town and then leaves. I want to impregnate Cincinnati and Newport with my comedy seed.” White performs Thursday-Sunday at the Funny Bone on the Levee.
