Now that those obligatoryfireworks displays are out of the way, you can spend the rest of your July doing something really exciting — catching the final month of Cincinnati Art Museum's The Amazing American Circus Poster exhibit, featuring 80 colorful, sometimes-thrilling and sometimes-bizarre posters from its collection of posters by Cincinnati-based Strobridge Lithographing Company.

(Posters loaned by the Ringling Museum of Art in Florida also are displayed.) In their heyday, around the turn of the 20th Century, circuses were more than just animals, clowns and gymnasts — they were the movies, Broadway, Wild West shows, opera and the Olympics wrapped up in one. These posters tell their story vividly. The show is up through July 10. Admission is free; there is a parking fee.
