The MidPoint Indie Summer Series returns to Fountain Square on Friday evenings June 3-Sept. 2. For the third consecutive year, MidPoint presents national, regional and local acts for free on downtown’s main public square, leading up to the big MidPoint Music Festival Sept. 22-24.
The kickoff show June 3 features fun, lively local Electronica duo You You’re Awesome, joined by Electro/Hip Hop duo Javelin and Kentucky’s Lydia Burrell, the Electronica alter ego of My Morning Jacket pal Alexander Smith. June 10 brings back one of the biggest draws of last year’s Summer Series, Texas-based Chillwave faves Neon Indian, who will be joined by dynamic Brooklyn Indie Rock "one-man-band" Oberhofer.
Chicago Indie Folk/Rock foursome Maps & Atlases headline June 17, while the June 24 show is headed up by Viva Voce, the Portland duo of Kevin Robinson and Anita Robinson, as well as eclectic Detroit Indie band Prussia.
Cincinnati's own nationally renowned Indie Pop faves Pomegranates are the headliners on July 1.
And things get blissfully weird July 8 with New Orleans’ flamboyant Big Freedia, the transvestite “Queen Diva” of Bounce, a genre that’s a wildly energized regional spin on Hip Hop adorned with N’awlins-informed accoutrements.
August headliners include These United States on Aug. 5, with locals The Ready Stance hosting a CD release party as an opening act; Maritime on Aug. 12; local power duo Bad Veins on Aug. 19, with locals The Chocolate Horse hosting a CD release party as an opening act; and Margot and the Nuclear So & So's from Indianapolis on Aug. 26.
Cincinnati-based garage rockers The Greenhornes close out the summer series in high style on Sept. 3.
Three-day MidPoint wristbands will be on sale at all Indie Summer Series shows at a special discounted rate (while they last). Come by the MPMF tent on Fountain Square and save some cash on your wristbands.
