Brush up on the true meaning of Memorial Day when stories come alive at the Cincinnati Museum Center (1301 Western Ave., West End). Before you dive into the featured exhibits Saturday, swing through the Information Fair from noon-4 p.m. and visit booths focused on the Red Cross, Mental Health and Women's Post 644. Examine a woman's viewpoint on wartime during Laura Browder's discussion about her new book, When Janey Comes Marching Home: Portraits of Women Combat Veterans.

The lecture takes place in the Reakirt Auditorium at 2 p.m. Audience members can purchase and receive signed copies of the book after the presentation. If you happen to take a loved veteran with you to the event, stop by the CMC North parking lot from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and check out the Veterans Mobile Health Unit. Go back in time with Happen Inc. and Harry the Historian as they analyze photographs from American History through Art Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Afterwards, have a seat in the Newsreel Theater and watch Lioness, a story of female Army support soldiers who were the first women in American history to be sent into direct ground combat. The film plays Saturday at noon and Sunday at 3 p.m. Lock your red poppy pin in place and head to the Cincinnati Museum Center this weekend for events honoring those who keep us safe.
