"Why not?" That's what you should be asking yourself when presented with the opportunity to fling fish in Fountain Square. The city of Cincinnati isn't really known as a fishing spot, but who cares? Get together a team of four people and make sure they are capable of competitive fish-tossing.

Why? Fuck it, why not? Twenty bucks will register your whole team and, if you successfully chuck the most fish down the course in 60 seconds, each team member wins a $20 gift card, a trophy and the unmistakable stench of fishy victory. Rubber gloves and ponchos are provided for all participants. Teams can sign up online at myfountainsquare.com by 5 p.m. Wednesday. Non-flingers can catch all the fish-flinging action from the sidelines on the Square noon-1 p.m. What better way to spend your lunch break than watching whole, raw fish soar through the air. Go here for more fish-flinging information.

So, at the risk of attack or criticism (or being accused of having a stick up my ass)...I'm all about fun events for the public in Cincinnati's beautiful Fountain Square...but wouldn't it be better to maybe, say, toss fake fish and donate the real fish to a place like Cincinnati FoodBank? It seems like a waste to destroy fish when so many people are starving. (please don't yell at me!)
