A show this Saturday and Sunday at "Embassy Suites RiverCenter" (10 East Rivercenter Blvd., Covington) quite literally offers a kaleidoscopic view of contemporary art. Sponsored by Brewster Kaleidoscope Society, which is holding a convention here, the free show will feature more than 500 kaleidoscopes and is meant to argue that they constitute fine art. Ranging in size and featuring some with sculptural exteriors, the kaleidoscopes are made of glass, ceramic, paper, wood, metal, onyx and other materials.

Many will be for sale. On Sunday, the society will hold a fundraiser for its Japanese members whose studios were damaged by the recent earthquake and tsunami, as well as to raise money for the damaged Sendai Kaleidoscope Art Museum. Also opening Friday, and continuing through June 24, is the related Kaleidoscopes of the 21st Century show at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center (1028 Scott St., Covington).
