Following her retirement from the Cincinnati Enquirer, where she covered the art and literature scenes, Sara Pearce has been working on her own collage art at her space in Oakley's Brazee Street Studios, as well as documenting her artistic process and observations at www.collage365.blogspot.com and her search and acquisition of vintage paper at www.paperwithapast.blogspot.com. Now she's presenting a show at NVision (4577 Hamilton Ave., Northside) through April 24.
Paper With A Past features her imaginative, colorful, witty and delightful collage work on paper and antique book boards; its overall themes are to revisit and redefine Victorian Era imagery, as well as to look at the role of women in popular pictorial work. The show draws on three of her series: “The Grand Tour,” “Reinterpreting the Victorian Illustration” and “Mad Women.” In her intricate creations, she uses vintage illustrations, maps, sheet music, text, letters, postcards, found objects and more to create something new out of something old.
