A flight to Germany for New Years is quite an investment, but a trip to the heart of Corryville for licentious merry making at Mecklenburg Gardens (302 East University Ave.) is the next best thing. The restaurant will kick off Midnight in Munich beginning at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the modern and historical German influence on Cincinnati with traditional German fare, drink and song.

The event culminates at 6 p.m., when attendees can celebrate the strike of midnight in Munich with a champagne toast, followed by a buffet feast that includes Oktoberfest Chicken, Suckling Pig and enormous handmade pretzels served with a spiced warm wine called Gluhwein that is integral to the German holiday. Live accordion music, short films and fortune-telling are also in store for the evening, promising a night of high spirits. The all-inclusive event costs $25. Vegetarian options for dinner are available by request.
