“I think when everything is going really shitty for you, that’s the best time to try something, because it can’t get any worse,” says Lachlan Patterson about his first foray into stand-up comedy. “I guess after trying everything else in the world and sucking at it, I realized, ‘Hey, maybe I should try it.’ I got wasted one night when I was 19 and started doing some jokes I made up the night before.” He soon realized that with some effort he could improve.
“That’s how I got started, by having nothing else to do.”
Today he’s all about the silly. “I like silly stupid stuff,” he admits. “I’m a big Steve Martin fan. I love getting to know the audience. If you want to talk to me, I can tell when people want to chat and get silly.” The Vancouver, B.C., native is particularly fond of Cincinnati, having recorded his debut album, Jokes to Make Love To, here last year. Patterson performs Thursday-Sunday at Go Bananas in Montgomery. 513-984-9288.
