One of many aspects I love most about modern dance is its capacity to connect people beyond boundaries of language, culture and other differences. And it moves people.

New York City-based Bill Young/Colleen Thomas & Dancers walk the talk, internationally speaking. Known for overseas exchanges, in recent years the company has featured dancers from Greece, Germany, Cape Verde, Venezuela, Albania and China.

Yet it’s a small world — Bill Young began his dance studies (in contact improvisation) right here in Ohio at Oberlin College.

As Contemporary Dance Theater’s first 2010-11 Guest Artist Series installment, Bill Young/Colleen Thomas & Dancers will present “Rein, Bellow” and their new work, “For Want (a circus)” at the Aronoff Center’s intimate Jarson-Kaplan Theater. Expect to see rich human qualities and charged emotional relationships play out in unexpected ways — performers float above the stage in harnesses, bounce off walls and break away from convention with physical daring.

Performances are 8:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
