Phyllis Weston Gallery’s newest exhibition gives lasting and living proof that the Rosenthal clan has always been intrinsically involved in our city’s artistic development. A Cincinnati Legacy of Art: David Rosenthal (1876-1949) to David S. Rosenthal (b. 1968) traces the work of two David Rosenthals.
The first studied with Duveneck and Sharp at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
His paintings and etchings will be on view beside work by David S. Rosenthal, who is an accomplished and innovative photographer. David (the younger) is also reputed of his diligent work as the director of the contemporary art gallery Prairie, in Northside, and as a professor in local universities. While his ancestor’s work upheld tradition and discovered beauty from within the lessons of the masters of his day, David S. Rosenthal makes use of his skills as a photographer to stretch what the medium is capable of showing us.
The exhibition continues through Oct. 2. Phyllis Weston Gallery is located in O’Bryonville at 2005 1/2 Madison Road. Gallery hours 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and by appointment.
