Music: Forecastle Festival in Louisville

By Eli Johnson · July 6th, 2010 · CityBeat Recommends

Louisville will be home to the 9th annual Too Broke For Bonnaroo Forecastle Festival starting this Friday. The three-day extravaganza of hot sweaty tree hugging features a star studded lineup of over 100 bands including She & Him, Spoon, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s and Cake. Headlining acts include psychedelic indie rockers The Flaming Lips, Against Me! and the award winning Smashing Pumpkins who have promised to rock so hard the oil spill in the Gulf will stop. Modern English and Scott Miller and the Commonwealth will wrap up the festival on Sunday night.

The Forecastle Festival also boasts an impressive art and activism program that includes the “It’s Not Easy Being Green” exhibit by Midwest Sculptors and Artists as well as San-Francisco based caravan of activism, the Sustainable Living Roadshow. The group of educators and activists travel the country [presumably in a fleet of Toyota Priuses] providing workshops on how to make our planet a big ball of healthy. Three-day passes are priced at $150 and single day tickets are priced at $60 (www.ticketmaster.com). If you have trouble convincing your ma letting you go see the Drive-By Truckers, tell her DEVO is playing (Really, they are). You can peep the lineup and schedule at www.forecastlefest.com.
