Northside Rock & Roll Carnival, Parade and Festival

July 2-3 • Hoffner Park

By Mike Breen · June 29th, 2010 · Sound Advice
Though Fourth of July celebrations across the country have been cancelled due to the bad economy, there are no shortage of Independence Day celebrations in Greater Cincinnati. Along with the “Red, White and Blue Ash” bash on Sunday with current Cincinnati resident Peter Frampton and classic rockers Yes (check out Brian Baker's Frampton interview here), you can get your Fourth on and hear some tunes in Colerain Township (featuring music from Canadian Country band Emerson Drive and Roots/Rock/Zydeco crew Robin Lacy & DeZydeco; find details at www.coleraintwp.org), on the downtown riverfront at Sawyer Point (with headliners The Carter Twins) and in many other neighborhoods across the Tristate.

But it’s the Northside Rock & Roll Carnival/Parade/Festival that features the best lineup of homegrown bands and musicians.

And it’s so cool you don’t even have to miss the other Fourth of July events and fireworks displays around town because the fun takes place Friday and Saturday, with no events on the actual Fourth.

The Rock & Roll Carnival begins at 6 p.m. Friday in Hoffner Park, and the eclectic lineup of music includes The Long Gones, The Sundresses (pictured), You You’re Awesome, The Kiss Me Everlasting, The Tempers and Queen City String Band. Between sets (and around the grounds) you can catch the unusual performances of The Pickled Brothers Sideshow and fire artistes Incendium Arts.

Saturday’s fun begins at noon with the always-entertaining Fourth of July Parade. Immediately following the parade at 1 p.m., the Festival takes over Hoffner Park and goes until 1 a.m. Saturday’s musical lineup features Cletus Romp, Ricky Nye Inc., The Tigerlilies, Daniel Martin Moore, Baoku Moses & the Image Afrobeat Band, Brian Olive and State Song.

All of the Northside festivities are free. For full details and schedules, go to www.northsidejuly4.com.
