For Christmas 2008, Minnesota-based actors Ryan Lear and Rachel Petrie sent loved ones an oddly festive portrait in glitter-bomb envelopes. “We set up a camera in our living room and started pulling stuff out of this costume trunk,” says Lear, who found a pair of oversized glasses. “As soon as I put them on, I felt this horribly dorky character coming into being.”
Thus were born Carl and Wanda Finkle, people who love theater in its most excruciating forms.
Now they’re doing it themselves — badly but happily. Says Lear, “It’s an epic show that doesn’t quite make it there.”
