Eddie Gossling has what a lot of comedians want: a steady TV writing gig. The Texas-native is on the staff of Comedy Central’s hit Tosh.0, which is going to start taping its second season in a few weeks. The job allows him more time at home with his wife and kids.
“It’s a nice change of pace,” he says. “It’s nice to be at the house. I do miss doing stand-up, but I don’t miss the travel. That’s why I only travel to places I love, like Cincinnati.”
Of course, being away from the stage makes the act that much more interesting.
“A lot of the stuff, when I come in, is things I’ve jotted down that I think are funny and I have no idea until I try them. So Thursday night is usually the best night. Experimental. Saturday is all fine-tuned again, running like a great machine.”
But Gossling isn’t sure people necessarily want perfection. “Don’t you want to see something that might fall apart? Didn’t you want to be there right before the Wright brothers took off? To see if it would work? Who cares about Virgin Atlantic and its Wi-Fi on the flight? We know that works. Let’s see something that might not work.”
Eddie Gossling performs at Go Bananas in Montgomery Thursday through Sunday. Tickets are $8-$12. Get showtimes and buy tickets here.
